Kapton tape, a form of polyimide tape or PI tape, is a high-performance polyimide film with a pressure-sensitive adhesive backing. It's trusted by PCB fabricators, aerospace engineers, 3D printing professionals, hobbyists, and electricians for its heat resistance, clean removal, and solid adhesion. Its distinctive golden amber color makes it immediately recognizable on any assembly or circuit board.

Kapton tape provides exceptional electrical insulation, protecting electronics and printed circuit boards during high-temperature fabrication, wave soldering, reflow, and 3D printing. Certain kapton tapes can withstand continuous temperatures up to 450°F (~232°C), handling everything from extreme cold to industrial heat without losing adhesion, flexibility, or dielectric strength.

Our high-temperature Kapton tapes are available with silicone adhesive (best for extreme heat, clean removal, and aerospace applications) or acrylic adhesive (best for strong initial tack in powder coating and 3D printing). They come in four mil thicknesses: 1-mil Economy, 2-mil Standard, 5-mil Strong, and 10-mil Heavy Duty — and in a range of shapes including rolls, circles, rectangles, and sheets. Single-sided and double-sided options are available.

Not sure which thickness to choose? Contact us about your project and we’ll use our 20+ years of experience to get you the right tape for the job. Typically, you can use our lightest 1-mil for PCB masking and lightweight insulation; 2-mil for everyday electrical and heat-masking work; 5-mil for heavier masking, cable wrap, and insulation; and 10-mil for rugged industrial and mechanical applications requiring maximum durability.
